5:30 AM - 6:30 AM    Get Up and Grove - Get Up and Grove: Session One
Need to get fit? Want to look great and feel amazing this summer? I've got good news... "Get Up and Grove" is almost here! This is an outdoor fitness class located at Abington's "hidden gem" (Island Grove Park). Class includes a low impact aerobic warm up, strength and resistance training to help tone your entire body, a good amount of stretching and a little meditation at the end of the week. Class is taught by Barbara Rae, a Group Fitness Instructor with 20+ years experience. Class will be held twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) and there are four morning sessions this year so sign up before they fill up.  Make sure to bring a yoga mat (or towel), a set of 5lb weights (or soup cans) and plenty of water! Class meets on the beach in front of the snack shack, parking available on Lake Street.  Schedule: Wednesday & Friday                   5:30 am - 6:30 am

The class is engaging with lots of discussion and involvement of the participants. The first portion of the class focuses on Street Smarts. Our goal is to keep kids safe at home, but also when they are out and about. Denise's background is women and children's safety. Age appropriate (9+) discussions on predators ("bad guys"), Amber Alert, kidnappings, (rare but necessary discussion), and verbal assertiveness. Denise is a 7th degree black belt and owner of South Shore Karate in Scituate, MA. She also demonstrates some safety moves with the class. The second portion of the class covers safety while home alone, including home rules, basic first aid, choking prevention, (how to do Heimlich on self and others) fire safety, answering the door, etc. I teach this part and my background is nursing.
