The class is engaging with lots of discussion and involvement of the participants. The first portion of the class focuses on Street Smarts. Our goal is to keep kids safe at home, but also when they are out and about. Denise's background is women and children's safety. Age appropriate (9+) discussions on predators ("bad guys"), Amber Alert, kidnappings, (rare but necessary discussion), and verbal assertiveness. Denise is a 7th degree black belt and owner of South Shore Karate in Scituate, MA. She also demonstrates some safety moves with the class. The second portion of the class covers safety while home alone, including home rules, basic first aid, choking prevention, (how to do Heimlich on self and others) fire safety, answering the door, etc. I teach this part and my background is nursing. Classes include a booklet and certificate of completion.
